Hillside Parish MagazineMay 2010From the Vicar – May 2010 After a very long wait I am delighted to be able to confirm that the Reverend Trevor Lewis is to become the House for Duty Priest in the Osmotherley and Hillside Parishes. Trevor and Margaret, his wife, will be moving into Orchard House in Ingleby Arncliffe in next week or two and Trevor will receive his Licence in early June. Read more about Trevor and Margaret below. Trevor is to be ordained as a priest on Sunday 30th May in York Minster at 10.00am. If you would like to attend the service to support Trevor then simply turn up! We keep Trevor and Margaret in our prayers as they move house and begin this next stage of their journey with God. And now over to them …….. I always find it difficult to talk about myself so when Ian asked me for an article on Margaret and myself for the magazine I didn’t know what I would have to say. The first thing that I can say is that both Margaret and myself are delighted to be coming to the Osmotherley and Hillside churches as the House for Duty Priest based in Ingleby Arncliffe, and to work with Ian and Mel alongside the Christian communities in those places. So who are we? I was born and was raised in a small village just to the west of Carlisle in Cumbria. Margaret and I were married in 1977 in St Mary’s church in Wigton and we came across to the North East in 1979 when I went to work for ICI. My background is in Engineering and Project Management, but for the last 15 years it has been Facilities Management and now strategic development. I will still be working for Johnson Matthey who bought Synetix, part of ICI, for 4 days a week and will be spending the rest of the time in the parish. I trained for ordination on the North East Oecumenical Course (NEOC) and was ordained Deacon on 5th July 2009 and will be ordained Priest on 30th May 2010 in York Minster. My first parish was my home parish of St Martin of Tours with St Cuthbert’s in Middlesbrough, working mainly at the St Cuthbert’s end of the parish where the Academy that I have been a Governor of for 16 years is situated. Both Margaret and I are trained Christian Listeners and I am a Tutor in the Diocesan ‘Equipping God’s People’ Team. In 2008 I spent three weeks on a training mission as part of the first York Diocese team that went to Bungoma in Kenya, where I probably learnt more from the Christian community there than they learnt from me. Margaret is a Trainer and has recently changed her job to be a Personal Job Advisor. She works for a company helping unemployed people get back into work. We have two grown up children, Phil and Jennie. Phil now lives in Melbourne, Australia and Jennie is in the RAF and is based in Lincolnshire. All four of us have been actively involved in Scouting for many years, Margaret and myself both as leaders for 23 years and 25 years respectively and Margaret is still the Akela in a Cub Pack in Middlesbrough. This is an exciting time for both of us. It is a big change in our lives responding to God’s call to work alongside you to bring the Kingdom of God in heaven to earth. Please pray for us as we make our preparations to move to Ingleby Arncliffe as we are holding you in our prayers. Trevor and Margaret Lewis
