June 2010

From the Vicar – June 2010

What a busy month June is! Everything seems to be happening at once. The weather continues to improve – long hot days and overnight showers – so that we can make up for all the time we’ve lost so far this year.

In church life June is the time for Ordinations and we are particularly aware of it this year as we welcome Trevor and Margaret Lewis to the benefice. Trevor is being ordained to the Priesthood in York Minster on 30th May (well, almost June!) and will be taking up his duties here as House-for Duty Priest just a few days later. As a Self Supporting Minister (SSM) he will continue to work as a project engineer on Teesside for four days a week and Margaret will continue her full-time job in Darlington. Summer is a good time to arrive here as there are all sorts of events and activities going on over the next month or two - this will provide lots of opportunities to meet them informally.

Graham Bowkett, who trained with Trevor, is also being ordained on May 30th. Graham has been a member of the Team Ministry in Thirsk for the last year. Mowbray Deanery is also welcoming Danny Walker who is being ordained as a Deacon on 27th June to serve in the parish of Northallerton. Please pray for Trevor, Graham and Danny and for all those who are being ordained this summer.

Also a number of people from our benefice are following a course which is preparing them to lead services in church from time to time. As well as making services more local it will make it easier to have more regular worship at convenient times in our churches. So please support them with your prayers too, and also pray for the continuing development of leadership and ministry in our parishes.

With my prayers
